Walking one of the trails in the Shade Garden after a winter snow. |
New England Botanic Gardens at Tower Hill are open year around and offer different exhibits and gardens throughout the year. Any time of the year is a great time to visit, as there is always something new to see, but Springtime is arguably the best season. The gardens have a few greenhouse exhibits that harbor flowers and plants year around, but the outside gardens offer far more to see and experience during the spring and summer months
What to Do
Enjoy the Gardens
The greenhouses have so many amazing plants from around the world. |
New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill has 17 unique gardens to enjoy. From cottage gardens to heritage apple orchards and tropical greenhouses to forest shade gardens, there is so many places to explore there. The gardens are open year-around and showcase season specific plants in each of the gardens. You can view fields of daffodils as far as you can see or get close up to rows of tulips. Their greenhouses display plants from all around the world and in the winter are the home of their orchid exhibit.
Stroll through the Trails
Spring time in the Shade Garden. |
With 171-acres of space there is a lot of places to explore at New England Botanic Garden. Two of my favorite places to explore though are the Shade Garden and Inner Park. These are the wooded areas east of the visitor center and are covered with wide winding trails to stroll. During the Spring and Summer, the areas are covered with flowers, greenery, and a little wildlife and during the winter the area gets covered with snow and the trails become a wintry wonderland.
Scramble Through ‘The Ramble’
The woven stick tunnel in The Ramble. |
The Ramble is one of the newest sections to be added to the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hills. The Ramble is an educational space built for visitors to interact with the nature around them. Some of the featuring are a pond, waterfall, rocky areas, woven stick tunnel, and logs to climb. This 1.5-acre interactive garden offers excitement for both the young and young at heart.

Where to Eat
If you get hungry or thirsty while you are touring the gardens then you should visit Farmer and the Fork CafĂ©, a dining area in the visitor center. They are open from 11am – 2:30pm with a full menu of grain bowls, sandwiches, soups, and salads and then from 2:30pm – 3pm for drinks and desserts only.
